My Rudd in Cold water fish tank / Rotfeder im Aquarium [5/6]
TAKE A LOOK AT MY OTHER VIDEOS www.fischbottich.de [Scardinius erythrophthalmus] +++ Rudd in freshwater tank +++ The population of this 200 liter (53 gallon) tank: Stone loach / Bachschmerlen [Barbatula barbatula] Rudd / Rotfedern [Scardinius erythrophthalmus] European bitterling / Bitterlinge [Rhodeus amarus] Prussian Carp / Giebel [Carassius gibelio] Tench / Schleie [Tinca tinca]
I won't say that they're cheaper (or more expensive), you can't really compare it. But some coldwater fish are very hard to find, like crucian carps, barbels or tench. You can always get goldfish or koi, but mostly no endemic fish (maybe some rudds or carps).
looking at this video is making me re-design my plans. Are cold water fishes generally cheaper than typical warm tropic fishes in Deutschland. I want to start a nice planted aquarium but also want to try my hands with Oscars. Carps, Oscars or Japanese styled grass like planted? I cant have it all.
That's not easy, it often takes a while. Most pet stores don't sell endemic fish, just colorfull goldfish and koi. But I've found some few good shops and angler stores where I can get the fish in the right size (they have to be small, not adult). But a few fish are also caught in a river near my town.
My tench get the same food like all the other fish: flakes and tablettes, sometimes mosquito larvae. I also tried sweet corn once, because I read that tench would go crazy for it. They didn't, neither the other fish. But it's worth a try.
by the way .. do you use any fertilizers ? :) or you just put in gravel without fertilizer ... Doesn't your prussian carp eat your plants? Mine eats them like a machine.
Yes, they did. You can watch some older videos of my rudds or my coldwater tank to see the difference. One rudd actually is a bit bigger then the other one, although they had the same size when I bought them. It's also good to see on the prussian carps and the pumpkinseeds in the videos, they got really big.

what do you feed the tench in your tank, is chopped up sweat corn and sinking gold fish food OK?
ReplyDeleteI don't use any fertilizer.
ReplyDeleteNo, my prussian carps don't eat my plants. But my rudds sometimes do, they like soft plants like elodea.

ReplyDeleteThe ideal temperature for rudds is 4-20°C (source: MERGUS).
