An Explaination of the 180 Gallon Goldfish Tank

The canister is actually a JBJ 4 stage reaction canister filter aka sunsun. ETA: Don't get this canister. Mine just broke after less than 1 year of use. I got another FX5 to replace it.

  6. I have a question about your substrate. I also have a fancy goldfish tank, and I love the look of the Tahitian Moon Sand. I've heard that sand can be hard on a goldfish's belly, and irritate their gills. How long have you been using it, have you had any trouble with their gills, and how does the grain size compare w/ regular sand?

  10. I don't intend to be mean but how the fuck did you suck both of her eyes out. It's outrageous and you sounded like nothing. "It just happened?" What if someone runs over you with a car and say "Sorry, it just happened. Can't help it."? How would you feel? You are just being sloppy. I'm sorry to curse on you as I went crazy when I saw the fish.

  11. You have a lovely tank setup and fish. How much is the cost to maintain such a tank, i.e. electricity and water bills? How do you prevent water loss when you have those Emperor filtes? I've 40 gallon breeder tank with one HOB Emperor 400 without the lid on the tank and I lose water from 1/2 a centimeter to 1 centimeter in a week to 10 days.

  15. just feed her like you do the rest, eventually she'll get hungry and eat like the rest.. although if she takes more then 5 or 6 days feed her the old way, then try again.

I use to have Plecos with fantails but I had to take them out. Every time I tried to feed the Plecos algae waffers the goldfish would take it from them and eat it up before the Plecos could get some. Then because of hunger they would get on the goldfish while they were resting on the bottom. Not a good mix.

  19. does the gravel or moon rock can that hurt the fish is that stuff better than regular gravel

  20. It is just a regular light. It has straight pin bulbs and four bulbs with 96 watts each. So just over 2 watts per gallon...and lots and lots of goldfish poop.

  25. It is a used tank, built in 1997. So I got it for the great price of $400. But I put $600 into it for the filters, lights.etc. So $1000 all together.
