When starting a freshwater aquarium, keep the aquarium out of areas of excessive sunlight, and use 1 pound of gravel per gallon of water. 2. So if I follow his instructions, how long should I wait before adding fish?

  3. Well he did almost everything right. You DO NOT want to add fish right after unless you want to have to do 1-2 water changes a day until your tank completely cycles. Regardless of whether you put bacteria in your water, bacteria has to grow and establish in your filter.

  7. no, he didn't. the "chemicals" are supposed to be the cycling. it would have been beneficial in my opinion to explain traditional cycling with starter/suicide fish (which is generally frowned upon today) as well as non-fish cycling. i'm about to start up a fluval edge that i might cycle for a good number of months before introducing fish, since it is such a small tank.

  15. Start right should take care of it for ya. Just don't add too many fish too quickly. Your bacteria base isn't built yet if you add too fast your water will turn white from pollutants the fish put out and poison the fish. But adding a very few fish for about a week or two will be good for the tank and do the same thing the eco start did but better.
