The UV will not help with green hair algae growth. This is because green hair alga is not free floating but instead grows on the surface of everything in the tank, whereas the UV unit will only help kill what passes through it (free floating alga in the water column). Sounds like you are on the right track here though.
i had issues with GHA about a week ago. ive since had the tank drilled, removed and bleached the live rock to kill all algae.I plan on using live sand to restore the live rock, and always use RO water. plan on getting an RO unit soon...i now have a completely clean tank and im wondering if a UV sterilizer will prevent the growth of GHA? any help would be appreciated.
My most recent video uploaded has annotations with names to all the corals I own. You may want to take a look at that video. Good luck and thanks for the much appreciated feedback.
Jmoore6334 I had that same problem on my sand bed it like had bubbles on it to.. I went away to Vermont for around 3 days and had the tank running with no lights on and when I got back my sand bed was white as a cloud :)
Glad to hear it. Good luck with the new setup.
