air pumps are necessary as impurities in the water attach themselves to the bubbles and are then released into the air, replacing the impurities with oxygenated water. so yeah get an air pump/air stone
If he has a standard 4 foot tank it is most likely a 55 gallon tank. And cold water doesn't mean that his house is not heated or that the tank is not in a heated environment, just that there is no heater in the water. Normal tropical fish with require a heater because they do best with water temps in the upper 70's to lower 80's and need the temp to stay constant. Cold water fish, like gold fish, do fine with colder water.
What is the size of ur aquarium? - a 10 gallon? Are u using a heater and an airpump? Do u NEED toHAVE to have an airpump for a 10 gallon goldfish tank?....I have a filter, but no airpump or airstone. please reply.
Thanks, the tank has Goldfish comets and fantails, a couple of loaches, a koi karp and about 20 rosie barbs. They all get along great, no fin nipping.
