In this 5 minute video you'll see a variety of fish that I have inside my small, cold water aquarium. This video was taken a couple of minutes after some live brine shrimps were introduced to the water. The largest fish, the Calico Fantail, takes the food without hesitation, as do the Zebra Danios. The White Clouds are a bit more apprehensive about the food and it seems that only 2 of them are keen to eat it. The Golden Zebra Danios are not keen at all and twice try the food only to spit it back out. I didn't manage to get a shot of the last fish, the Pearl Danio, eating any of the food. I am intrigued as this was the first time that I had introduced live food into the environment. Previously these animals have been fed frozen Brine Shrimp and occasionally flake. I would like to get some comments about the feeding of live food from people who have had experience with this.

I am sorry but your tank is sooo small!
ReplyDeletemy opinion : put the goldfish in a pond , sell the danio's and buy some guppy's (but than ofcourse you need a heater)
Nice! I love your plants too!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought live blood worms for my fishes, my ones in aquariums didn't seem to really know what to do at first, but my pond fish just gobbled them up!
cold water? I thought danios had to be kept in warmer waters?
ReplyDeleteI love your tank though, it's so beautiful!
yoh wat does shrimp eat?
ReplyDeletedoes the goldfish not eat destroy your plants?
ReplyDeletelol sorry been on holiday! yes its fine to feed live brine shrimp. can't think of any safety issues at all.
ReplyDeleteAnybody? not even the author of this video?
ReplyDeleteHow safe is it to feed live brine shrimp?
ReplyDeleteVery nice tank.
ReplyDeletealthough your fish REALLY shouldn't be together for many reasons... and the goldfish needs a much bigger tank... i can honestly say this is the first tank i have ever seen where i can understand how people find fish relaxing to watch :) i love your tank. could you tell me what plants you have in there, and how big the tank is? i can see twisted vallis, cabomba, what i THINK is dwarf hairgrass and... moneywort?
ReplyDeleteHow do the rest of your fish do with the goldfish in there? I want to start a coldwater community tank, but I have been warned against mixing my Danios and my Goldfish. I LOVE your tank :), it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIf I told you that it cost me just £9 for the rocks and plants I think you'd be surprised. I got the idea from a pet shop where they had a similar looking set up. I took a photo of that tank on my phone and then set about finding the plants, rocks and sand. I planted taller plants at the back and shorter plants at the front. The rocks are angled back to draw the eye to the back of the tank.
ReplyDeleteThis tank is really beautiful. Can you elaborate on how you got that awesome looking effect?
ReplyDeleteHey I love zebra danio too :) they are cool fishes. How big is the tank ?
ReplyDeleteYes they are. Really pleased as I have managed to keep on top of the algae build up and so the water looks great.
ReplyDeleteNice are those real plants?
